Fruit Beer
I thought I'd mention the first fruit beer I ever tasted (and liked BTW). I got to tour the Celis brewery when they were still in Austin, Texas and I really enjoyed the experience as well as the samples. I'm doing this post in the spirit of this. The beer - as I remember - was a typical Belgian wheat base with nice raspberry sourness to enhance the existing sourness from the beer. I always liked (and still do) the Celis White, so the raspberry didn't seem like a huge departure from that. Celis White is very similar in taste to Hoegaarden, as you might expect if you know anything of their respective histories.
Let me make it clear that my post here pertains to the Celis Raspberry as it was brewed in the Austin location. Celis has gone through some changes since then. They were closed, then reopened under the ownership of Michigan Brewing Company and I've read some less than flattering things about the "new" version of the Raspberry beer. Nostalgia is good in some ways, bad in others. I'll pick some up this weekend and attempt to give it an unbiased tasting. To be perfectly honest and fair though, I'm not sure my nostalgia will permit me to be unbiased in my assessment.
Since this is my first contribution to this beer blogging consortium, I should probably include the appropriate logo:

I hope you enjoy it.
